Appearences Can be Deceiving
On a warm September evening we got a call for a MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) at an intersection. I was on the Aerial Trucks that night. It holds most of the auto-extrication equipment for District 71 so we went to the call along with the Pumper.
![]() As we pulled up the scene looked quite spectacular. The two vehicles involved were a 4wd Sport Truck and a Mini-van. The van was on its side laying across an island. I thought we were going to get into some serious extrication on this one. The Pump crew took over patient care for the driver of the 4X4 while the Aerial crew went to check out the van. When we arrived the lady who had been driving it had already undone her seatbelt and climbed out through the broken back window. She was a little shaken up but otherwise she was fine. We put a collar on her just to be sure and we treated a cut on her hand and then turned her over to the ambulance. The call turned out to be nothing really. It looked big but there was nothing for us to do. We cleaned up and went back to the station. |
